The man was produced before the court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
The Surat city police have filed chargesheet in a rape and murder case of a minor girl in a record 13 days from the arrest of the accused. The police have also appointed a retired officer to assist the trial after permission from the state law department.
On December 7, a 10-year-old girl, who was playing nearby her house had gone missing. The parents of the girl had lodged missing complaint the same day. The next day, the police recovered the girl’s body at an isolated place near the railway tracks in Pandesara area. The girl’s face was mutilated by bludgeoning with a stone, police said.

Backing the ongoing nationwide protest by farmers’ union against the three farm laws, Kehdut Sangharsh Samithi, comprising 23 farmers’ association of Gujarat, sat on a one-day token protest at Surat on Wednesday. The association also released a pamphlet depicting the losses to the farmers and the common man due to the three laws.
Congress leader Dhiru Gajera, Gujarat Khedut Samaj president Jayesh Patel, its south Gujarat unit president Ramesh Patel were among the leaders who took part in the daylong dharna at Jinning Mill compound in Jehangirpura.
Pamphlets highlighting the disadvantages of the three farm legislation, which were released on the occasion, will be distributed by the 17 district heads of Gujarat Khedut Samaj and other farmers’ associations among farmers. Over five lakh copies of such pamphlets will be distributed, Sangharsh Samithi sources said.
Dangs district Congress president Motilal Chaudhary, accompanied by tribals, reached Waghai Railway station and submitted memorandum to Kansal requesting to restart the heritage train service. The Dangs district has no railway connectivity and Waghai is the only railway station in entire district.
The memorandum said that many tribals used the heritage train to reach Billimora and Gandevi for jobs and to sell their agricultural produce.
The tribals in the interior villages have no other mode of transport.
Many tribal students used the heritage train service to reach Billimora and Navsari for further education in the schools and colleges.
After paying visit to the Waghai Railway station, Kansal met a group of BJP leaders led by Dangs BJP MLA Vijay Patel and social worker Bipin Rajput at Forest Rest House in Waghai, later on Saturday afternoon.
Dr Naik added, “The vaccine will be first given to 29,988 health workers out of which 17, 805 health workers are from SMC health department and hospitals, and 12,183 health workers from the 948 private hospitals and clinics in the city. In the second phase the vaccine will be given to the frontline workers in different government departments like police, collectorate, revenue department. In the third phase the vaccine will be given to over 5 lakh people who are above 50 years. We have done door-to-door survey covering each and every household and prepared a data list of people above 50 years. The data had been uploaded and all the preparations are made ready.”
Federation of Surat Textile traders Association president Manoj Agrawal said, “We are happy that state government had finally accepted our proposal. Due to the fly by night firms, the industry faced loss of hundreds of crores per year. The local police station officials are busy maintaining law and order and dealing other offences.”
After the inauguration, the minister addressed media persons and said, “We have come to know that many small traders become victims of the conspirators who purchase fabrics and defaults payments and escape. Keeping in mind the loss incurred by traders, we have started economic cell office at Surat. The wing will have 50 police personnel including a deputy superintendent of police and police inspector.”
