Extended rain during summer has hampered the effort
With monsoon rains hardly a week away from hitting the Kerala coast, the city Corporation as well as the various departments have been racing against time to clear up the canals and drains in the flood-prone regions in the city.
The uncharacteristically extended rains during the summer has hampered some of these efforts.

Much-touted Operation Anantha in Thiruvananthapuram a failure, says Minister-designate
Thiruvananthapuram MLA-elect Antony Raju, who is set to join the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Cabinet, has set his sights on finding a lasting solution for the perennial problem of waterlogging in Thampanoor, East Fort and other parts of the city. The development of Thampanoor, a hub of connectivity in the State, also figured among his top priorities.
Interacting with media persons at a meet-the-press organised by the Kesari Memorial Journalists’ Trust here on Tuesday, Mr. Raju dubbed the Operation Anantha flood mitigation drive a failure.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The heavy rain that lashed the city for hours on Tuesday evening left its vulnerable spots submerged yet again. The irrigation dept and corporation haven’t done much to end the perennial bane of the city despite tall claims. Will authorities launch Operation Anantha Phase 2 at least now?
