AMISOM donates desks, food and medical supplies to residents of Elwak town in Somalia’s Gedo region

Dhobley Wednesday 13 January, 2021-The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on Wednesday donated foodstuffs and an assortment of medical supplies to Elwak District Hospital, in Gedo region of Somalia.
At the same event, AMISOM also donated 36 desks to Harweyn Primary School, to improve the quality of education in the area.
The items were donated by AMISOM troops based in Dhobley, the headquarters of sector 2, under the command of Kenyan troops.
Lt. Col. Said Katera, the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion (1MIB) presided over the handover ceremony, at which he praised the local community for their continued support and cooperation.
Onyeuko said the operations were carried out from July 1 to Dec. 31 2020.
He disclosed that 73 AK47 rifles, one GPMG and 194 Dane guns as well as 5,032 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 568 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition and 156 live cartridges were recovered by the troops.
According to him, 197 bandit’s camps and hideouts including the notorious Dangote Triangle and several bandits’ logistics bases have been destroyed by troops during the period.
“Also, 335 suspected bandits, 326 illegal miners, 147 bandits informants and collaborators, 14 bandits arms suppliers, 24 rustled cattle marketers and 46 bandits logistics suppliers were arrested.
“Similarly, a total of 7,761 cows, 1,867 sheep/rams and four Camels were recovered and given back to the owners by troops within the period.

The Nigerian army troops of Operation Sahel sanity in its aim to combat the menace of banditry and other crimes have killed 220 bandits, destroyed 197 bandits camps, rescued 642 kidnapped victims, arrested 147 informants in the north-west.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday at army super camp, Faskari, Katsina State, the acting director Defence Media Operation, Brig. General Benard Onyeuko said the troops have intensified their offensive clearance operations, fighting patrols and ambush.

The Special Army Super Camp IV in Faskari, Katsina State has given an update on the activities of Operation Sahel Sanity in combating the menace of armed banditry and other sundry crimes in the North West region since its commencement to date.
The military said 73 KK47 rifles, one GPMG, 194 Dane guns, 5,032 rounds of 7.62mm, special ammunition, 568 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition and 156 live cartridges were recovered from bandits.
