What Malta must learn from South Africa – Kevin Cassar

The disgraced former president and party leader is behind bars, humiliatingly escorted to prison by heavily armed police officers. His successor was profoundly apologetic: “The governing party could and should have done more to prevent corruption under my predecessor.” Of course, this wasn’t Robert Abela referring to Joseph Muscat. This was about Jacob Zuma, former South Africa president and anti-apartheid liberation hero. Until 2018, he commanded supreme control as leader of the mighty African National Congress (ANC) and president of the rainbow nation. Today, he is a broken man. Silvio Debono drops 19 Caruana Galizia libel cases following settlement

DB Group owner Silvio Debono and the Caruana Galizia family have reached a settlement that effectively ends 19 libel suits which the business mogul had filed against Daphne Caruana Galizia four years ago. Debono had filed all lawsuits in March 2017, seven months before the journalist was killed in a car bomb explosion outside her Bidnija home, in response to articles Caruana Galizia published about the highly controversial ITS land deal at St Geoge s Bay.  The land is to be turned into a mega-development, dubbed City Centre, by Debono s DB Group.  Following her murder, Caruana Galizia s husband and three sons subsequently stepped into the ongoing civil proceedings as respondents.
