The largest school district in Santa Barbara County on Wedneday mapped out its plan for returning teachers and students to some in-person lessons in the Santa Maria Valley with a notice sent to the faculty union on Thursday.

Santa Maria-Bonita targets April 12 for return of students
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Santa Maria Bonita School District plans to wait until after Spring Break to bring students back to elementary school campuses. The youngest students will be the first to return on April 12 followed by older grade levels.
Superintendent Luke Ontiveros did not provide specifics on when each grade level would return, but he said it would be a phased reopening in line with what other local districts are doing. The Orcutt Union School District brought back TK-K students to campus today and older students will return over the next two weeks.
Governor Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers have proposed a school reopening deal to push school districts to open classrooms for younger students by the end of March.
