Yaas leaves behind Tk 60 crore worth of damage, losses in Khulna United News of Bangladesh (UNB)
Bangladesh, May 31 The local administration has estimated a loss of Tk 60 crore in damage caused by Cyclone Yaas in the coastal areas of Khulna district.
Due to the impact of the cyclone, many houses, fish enclosures, some 100 kilometres of embankments and crop lands were damaged.

The experts have estimated that the combined damage is worth up to Tk 60 crore.
In Koyra upazila, 50 villages under four unions of the district have been flooded by the river water while the tidal surge entered the localities through 11 points of the flood-protection embankment as the water levelof Kapotakkho, Koyra and Shakbaria rivers increased 6-7 feet above the normal level.

999 helpline: 2 children among 5 workers rescued from brick kiln

Police today rescued five workers including two children who were confined in a brick kiln in Pirojpur s Indurkani after receiving a call for help through the helpline number 999.
After getting information through 999, police raided the brick kiln of Niaz Brick Industries at Kholpatua village yesterday and rescued five workers, said Officer-in-Charge of Indurkani Police Station Mohammad Humayun Kabir.
The rescued workers are Mafizur Rahman (8), Sagar Hossain (9) and Aliraj Hossain (18) of Shrifalkati village in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira.
They were confined at Kholpatua village and forced to work against their will. Of them, Aliraj and Rashedul were kept in chains, the OC said.
