The Safari makes a comeback in its latest iteration, with prices starting from Rs 14.69 lakh (ex-showroom). Available in a total of nine variants, the new Safari commands a premium of up to Rs 1.35 lakh over the Harrier. Like its 5-seater sibling, which gets stylish Camo and Dark editions, Tata offers the Safari with an Adventure Edition based on the top-spec XZ+/XZA+ variants. Tata Motors is all set to launch the Safari on February 22. Set to become the carmaker’s principal offering, the Safari is essentially a three-row derivative of the Harrier. It will be underpinned by Land Rover’s D8 platform and be provided with a diesel engine. Looks Macho?
We’ll let you decide that, but the new Safari is a smart-looking SUV in our books. While the front-end is similar to the Harrier, the Safari gets unique elements like a tri-arrow grille and silver skid plate for distinction. In profile, the 80mm height difference is apparent, while the larger 18-inch alloy wheels definitely lend it a more laddish stance. Even the tailgate is more upright now, thanks to the third row.

Tata Safari Bookings Officially Begin From Today, Launch On February 22

Tata Safari to be offered in nine variants: XE, XM, XMA XT, XT+, XZ, XZA, XZ+ and XZA+.
It’ll be offered in three shades: Royale Blue, Daytona Grey, and Orcus White.
Will be powered by the 2.0-litre diesel engine developing 170PS and 350Nm.
Likely to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 21 lakh.
Tata Motors has officially commenced bookings for its upcoming flagship SUV, the Safari. The manufacturer will reveal prices on February 22. It has also reached dealerships where one can take a closer look at it. Test drives for the Safari are also underway.
A similarity with the old Safari is the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine. But, it s no surprise that the new Safari pulls ahead in both power and torque, producing almost double the power figures. While the 2.0-litre diesel was derived from Peugeot in 1998, the new 2.0-litre is sourced from the Fiat. It s also the first Safari to get a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, the older model has the advantage of a 2.1-litre petrol engine, which isn t there in the new offering as of now. Another difference is that all this power is distributed to the front wheels in the new Safari, whereas the original one that was a rear-wheel drive/four-wheel drive SUV.
