I don t want to talk about him this morning. I do want to talk about his victim though. What is absolutely outrageous is that once outside of court one of Hayne s supporters allegedly spat at her.

Jarryd Hayne has pleaded his innocence in an outburst in court during his rape charge sentence hearing, following a confronting statement from his victim. The former NRL star arrived at court in Newcastle in the rain on Thursday wearing sunglasses and shielded by an umbrella. He was surrounded by dozens of friends and family. The 33-year-old will learn his fate at 2.30pm after a NSW District Court jury found him guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent in March. He faces up to 14 years in jail. When asked by the judge:  If you went out to commit a serious criminal offence, you would know it would have a devastating impact on your career..?

  After three days of deliberating a jury found Hayne guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. He was found not guilty of the more serious charges of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent, recklessly inflicting actual bodily harm. Following a seven-day trial in Sydney s Downing Centre District Court, the jury of seven men and five women found the two-time Dally M winner and ex-NFL convert guilty of the two alternative sex assault charges. The ex-Parramatta and Gold Coast star s fall from grace sees him facing a maximum of 14 years of prison and after his guilty verdict, Judge Syme told him a custodial sentence is inevitable .
