Michigan reported 8,955 new coronavirus cases and 40 additional deaths on Friday, April 16. The state is averaging 6,949 new COVID-19 cases per day and 49 new deaths per day over the last week. Since the start of the pandemic, the state has reported 779,777 coronavirus cases and 16,771 deaths. The state has also reported 87,847 probable cases and 1,087 probable deaths, in which a physician and/or antigen test ruled it COVID-19 but no confirmatory PCR test was done.

Kalamazoo County sign (Photo by John McNeil) KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) In accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), along with an announcement Tuesday by the State of Michigan, the Kalamazoo County Health Department will pause all upcoming clinics using the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine. The pause is being conducted to review data concerning cases of extremely rare but serious blot clots in those who have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The Kalamazoo County Health Department will work to reschedule Johnson & Johnson vaccine clinic appointments to Pfizer or Moderna.
