The superintendent of Iberia Parish schools confirmed Monday there is an ongoing investigation into an incident that occurred in a school bathroom and left a student with a broken jaw.
The New Iberia teenager s jaw was broken when he was attacked in the bathroom at Westgate High School recently, his mother told KLFY.
She said a group of students attacked her son, 17-year-old Mauricio Brown, in the bathroom at Westgate High School, which left him with a severe concussion and the need to wire his jaw shut.
The assault was caught on video on a cell phone of one of the students said to be behind the attack and shows him left unconscious on the bathroom floor at the end, according to KLFY.

As the threat of severe weather heads towards Acadiana, many Parishes are closing school early in an effort of public safety.

Superintendent Scott Richard tells KPEL that schools will have an early lunch and dismiss around 11:30 a.m. Richard says the district plans to start the process of dismissing students after that.
Evangeline Parish
Evangeline Parish Schools and school board offices will be closing at 2:00 pm.
