Residential Counselor finds continuous inspiration from Gatton Academy students

Friday, February 12th, 2021 During his time as an undergraduate student in the WKU Organizational Leadership program, Owensboro, Kentucky native, Hayden Hobgood, worked in 5 different campus buildings as an RA. This ignited his interest in working with students, but he was looking for a slightly different experience upon graduation. It wasn’t until he entered into the WKU Counseling and Student Affairs program in 2019 that his career trajectory began to take shape. Throughout his WKU experience, Hobgood felt increasingly drawn to the prestigious residential school for gifted and talented high school juniors and seniors, The Gatton Academy. “I worked with several Gatton students when was an RA,” Hayden said. “I also had a cousin that had attended the [Gatton] program, and I worked at the Wesley Foundation, a Methodist campus ministry that had a Gatton student that attended.” Now, he serves as a residential counselor within its ranks.

10 Gatton Academy Seniors Recognized as Candidates for 2021 U S Presidential Scholars Program

Elise Swift-Taylor Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021 Thirteen Gatton Academy seniors learned recently they are candidates for the 2021 United States Presidential Scholars Program. The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 by Executive Order of the President to recognize and honor some of the nation s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. The 2021 candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholar from The Gatton Academy are: Sachi Barnaby (Bowling Green High School), daughter of Jerry and Masako Barnaby, from Bowling Green. Samuel Chang (Bowling Green High School), son of Yining Chen and Nianchu Chang, from Bowling Green. Andrew R. Davison (Rowan County Senior High School), son of Rebecca and Scott Davison, Morehead.

Hale leaves great legacy at Somerset Christian School

Janie Slaven | CJ When John Hale was hired to head up the administration of Somerset Christian School (SCS), he was asked by the pastors’ council to give the then relatively new school a 3-5 year commitment. When Hale announced his retirement in mid-December, it heralded the end of a 15-year legacy. “The place kind of grows on you,” he joked. Hale told the Commonwealth Journal this week that he’d been planning his retirement for more than a year. In addition to his age, Hale cites that the school now needs “visionary” leadership.
