Wyoming and Idaho have moved one step closer to completing a pathway over Teton Pass that could connect networks in both states.
A federal grant of $1.3 million to the City of Victor will pay for construction of almost two miles of paved pathway from Moose Creek in Idaho east to the Wyoming state line.
That leaves just six more miles of pathway to build on the west side of Teton Pass, which would then connect to the two Teton community pathway systems at the pass summit.
Officials and supporters in both states were pleased with the news.
âItâs our piece of the puzzle to get the trail up over the pass,â said Victor Mayor Zach Smith. Smith said he was looking forward to a completed pathway, which would provide a tourism boost to the region.
County Commissioners have joined Grand Teton National Park and Friends of Pathways in agreeing to pay more than planned toward a $2.26 million pathway just west of the Gros Ventre roundabout.
âIâm really appreciative of their commitment to partnering with the park and with Friends of Pathways,â Katherine Dowson said of the boardâs decision. Dowson is executive director for Friends of Pathways.
âI think the commissioners have really committed to the goals of their comprehensive plan and making sure people have comfortable choices for walking and biking,â she said. âThat seems to be well supported by all the commissioners right now.â
Planning to head to Nevada’s Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park? Better hurry, as the park is closing for the spring and summer due to road repairs.
Nevada State Parks announced Wednesday that the park will close April 29 for road repairs and will likely remain closed through the summer.
The closure includes the ghost town, campground, picnic area and fossil shelter.
The park contains a ghost town built in the 1890s that is preserved in a state of arrested decay, with interpretive trails that tell the story of the town and its mine. The park also houses the largest known remains and most abundant concentration of Ichthyosaurs, ancient marine reptiles that swam in the warm ocean that covered Nevada more than 200 million years ago.
