The Government faced a backlash yesterday from Red Wall Tory MPs over its move to hold a public inquiry to decide the fate of a proposed coal mine in Cumbria.
MPs were apoplectic at the u-turn over the Woodhouse Colliery, accusing the Government of the worst type of greenwashing .
Mike Starkie, the Mayor for Copeland, pushed back against criticism from environmental groups, arguing coking coal from the mine was necessary for steel used in green infrastructure.
