Rosewood Heights: Helen Marie Stalcup, 90, beloved Mother, Aunt and Meme, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at her home in Rosewood Heights, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 13, 1930, in Blodgett, Missouri, the sixth of seven children, to Elmer and Irene (Bess) Moore. She and Richard Dick P. Stalcup were married on January 31, 1952, by Father Thomas Manning at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church (OLQP) in Bethalto. They were married for 53 years before he preceded her in death on January 25, 2006. She graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School in 1948 and later began working at Owens-Illinois Glass Mfg. After her first child was born, she became a homemaker and frequent volunteer in her children s schools. Once her children were older, she was employed at Sav-Mart, The Valu Store, The Colonial Bread Thrift Store and, finally, by Lewis Bakeries until her retirement in 2000. EAWR High to Spend Grant on Upgrades and Equipment

WBGZ Radio 4/9/2021 | By Doug Jenkins - WBGZ Radio   About $677,000 has been awarded to the East Alton Wood River High School district. The money comes through the ESSER II grant, which is part of the CARES Act funding. These emergency relief funds are to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools across the Nation. Superintendent John Pearson tells The Big Z some of the money will be spent on area microphones, webcams, and PA systems for classrooms, essentially building a TV studio to enhance remote learning capabilities. Local Schools to Get Millions in COVID Funds

WBGZ Radio 4/3/2021 | By Mark Ellebracht - WBGZ Radio Millions of dollars in COVID-19 relief funding will be coming to Riverbend public schools.  More than $53.1 million will go to the Alton, Bethalto, Roxana, East Alton Elementary, Wood River Hartford, and East Alton Wood River High School Districts.  The announcement for that funding came this week from State Senator Rachelle Crowe of Glen Carbon.  The funding comes as part of the most recent federal COVID-19 relief packages. Schools, students, and parents have overcome challenges that began in March 2020 including remote and hybrid learning, digital connection issues, new processes for receiving state and federal aid that normally flow through schools, and more.  The majority of the funding comes from the American Rescue Plan, which gives local schools a great deal of flexibility in how they can use the money over the next 3 ½ years.  At least 20% of the funding must be used to address learning loss, but beyond that, sch

Our Education: Lewis & Clark virtual early bird registration begun The Telegraph FacebookTwitterEmail GODFREY Early Bird Registration for high school seniors is now under way at Lewis and Clark Community College in a virtual format. “For our district seniors, graduation is just around the corner, and Lewis and Clark wants to help make the transition to college as smooth as possible,” said Assistant Director of Admissions, Records and Recruitment Ryan Hodge. Seniors taking advantage of this opportunity will be able to choose their courses and create their ideal class schedules for Summer 2021 and/or Fall 2021, in some cases before or just as open registration for fall begins March 15.
