ACLU files federal complaint over allocation of COVID relief funds to Riverside County Sheriff’s Dept.
Three organizations, including the ACLU, have filed a federal complaint accusing Riverside County misusing million of dollars meant for COVID relief allocated to the Sheriff s Department
In the complaint addressed to the Department of Treasury, the ACLU accuses the Sheriff s Dept. of misusing millions in COVID relief, including $2.7 million for furniture and other office renovations, another $1.3 million to upgrade its key card/video camera systems, and another $660,000 to bulletproof its windows.

Riverside County Sheriff s Deputy Oscar Rodriguez fatally shot Luis Morin Jr. in a Coachella driveway on a January night in 2014 as Morin s mother looked on in disbelief.
In the weeks after the shooting, speculative whispers that Morin s death might have been the result of a romantic rivalry spread quickly through the tight-knit east valley community.
Ten “large” gaming machines and a quantity of suspected fentanyl and other illicit narcotics were among the items seized by local and regional officers in a recent Perris, Calif. raid. One gang member was arrested and another suspect could be charged.

The gambling machines are “believed to be related to an illegal gambling operation,” Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said in a statement following the raid late last week.
Special agents from the Department of Justice Bureau of Gambling Control took part in the court-ordered search of the property.
