SOUTH DEERFIELD The replacement of the culvert on Kelleher Drive, which was originally expected to take about a month once construction began in October, will hopefully be completed in the next three weeks, according to Town Administrator Kayce Warren.
Cleanup, however, which includes final paving and restoration, will take place in the spring. Warren advised the timeline is “fluid,” depending on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Two area districts reaffirmed their intention to play winter high school sports Wednesday night, as the Greenfield School Committee and Frontier Regional School Committee discussed the impending season during virtual meetings.
In Greenfield, the athletic department has conducted virtual practices only this week. While the original winter start date chosen by the PVIAC was Monday, Greenfield Athletic Director Mike Kuchieski explained to the committee Wednesday night that his basketball and hockey teams have been meeting virtually for the first few days of practice.
Kuchieski said the plan is to gather for in-person practices next week, with hockey slated for its first practice on Jan. 18 and basketball to follow Jan. 19. Games have been moved back a week in the Franklin County bubble, with basketball tilts set for Jan. 26 and hockey on Jan. 30.

SOUTH DEERFIELD Three of the four local boards of health approved a motion this week for the Frontier and Union 38 regional school districts to remain in remote learning through Jan. 8.
As Conway’s Board of Health did not have a quorum, a separate meeting will be held to vote on the motion.
The vote followed a discussion by members of the Sunderland, Deerfield, Whately and Conway boards of health at a joint meeting Tuesday night. The discussion began with a recommendation from Deerfield Board of Health member Carolyn Shores Ness to resume remote learning on Jan. 4 and to resume hybrid learning on Jan. 7.
