Highland joined KVOE s Morning Show this week for his perspective on successes, concerns and what lies ahead. He says one highlight was a bill to transfer oversight of the Kansas Department of Labor s unemployment insurance program to an outside agency because of ongoing concerns about the Labor Department. Highland is not happy with the department s response, and part of that goes into a bill on tax policy changes recently vetoed by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly.

Sedgwick County to begin vaccinations for school teachers, staff

Posted By: George Lawson February 23, 2021 @ 11:27 am Coronavirus (Covid-19), Local News, News Sedgwick County has received additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that have been earmarked for teachers and staff at K-12 schools, under a plan recently announced by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly. Deputy County Manager Tim Kaufman told county commissioners Tuesday that county health officials have been working with school districts and vaccinations could begin as soon as Wednesday.   Kaufman said the plan is to get first doses of the vaccine to all teachers and staff within a 2 or 3 week time period. The county has ten school districts along with the Catholic Diocese and a number private schools.  Kaufman said the county will put the districts into groups and develop custom plans for providing the vaccine to each group.  The county will work with pharmacies and clinics to provide the vaccine for about half
