Americaâs conversation about climate change typically offers two options. One is full governmental control and the American economyâs destruction. Legislation like Colorado Senate Bill 21-200, which is currently making its way through the General Assembly, is of that kind. The other option is denial.
There must be a better way. It is time we promote policies that will protect the environment without destroying the economy.
Investment in nuclear energy is one good possibility. Nuclear energyâs carbon footprint is next to zero, and it requires 360 times less land to produce the same energy output as solar. The Energy Information Administration shows that nuclear is by far the most reliable energy source, operating at full capacity 92.5% of the time in 2020. Area utilities are urging customers to go easy on their water consumption this year to help the Grand Valley better absorb the impacts of continuing drought.

A Different Approach to Taste of the Grand Valley
For several weeks now we have been hearing about a different approach to this year s Home Loan Taste of the Grand Valley, the annual fundraiser for United Way of Mesa County. Due to the pandemic, a gathering of more than 1,000 people in an enclosed space to sample food was not possible this year, but this has not deterred United Way from finding a way to make the Taste happen.
In lieu of Taste of the Grand Valley, United Way of Mesa County has put together Ticket to Taste coupon booklets featuring offerings from more than 40 Grand Valley restaurants, breweries, wineries, coffee shops, and food vendors. The booklet is filled with coupons that, in most cases, can be used at these merchants between now and the end of August.
