The sad news of original Whodini member Ecstasy’s passing on Wednesday (December 23) has trickled down throughout the Hip Hop community and the late rap pioneer’s legacy is being honored all across the board.
Most notably there was Jermaine Dupri, who has gone on record numerous times attributing his time as a youth backup dancer for the “One Love” Hip Hop group to launching his successful dive in the music industry. Taking to Twitter, he showed his gratitude to his longtime friend.
“My God, this one hurts me so bad,” JD began. “I can’t even believe I’m posting this,Ex you know I love you … thank you for every word,every conversation every good time,may your soul Rest In Power” while adding a series of praying and dove emojis.

XXL from the late rapper s family regarding the rapper s passing. The African and Native American ancestors have gathered around and chosen this day, during the Winter Solstice, Dec 23rd, 2020 to call upon a most endeared, generous, and sincere soul who graced The World’s heart through performance, hip-hop, family, children and grandchildren, the statement reads. John Ecstasy Fletcher was a beloved man, the life partner to Deltonia and ex-husband to Carla, twin brother to Joseph,artist, friend, and lifetime performing partner to the Legendary Jalil of Whodini.

Born June 7, 1964, Fletcher was a member of the pioneering rap who created hits such as “Freaks Out At Night,” “The Haunted House of Rock,” and their
Billboard Hot 100 hit “Friends.”
In 1982, Brooklyn, New York, Fletcher formed the group with lyricist
Jalil Hutchins and eventually signed a deal with Jive Records. Grand Master Dee joined the group in 1986. Their debut single, “Magic’s Wand,” served as a tribute to late hip-hop DJ

John Fletcher â aka Ecstasy, a founding member of Whodini â has reportedly died at the age of 56.
Questlove broke the news of the rapperâs death on Instagram earlier today (December 23). The cause of death has been made public at the time of writing.
âOne Love to Ecstasy of the Legendary #Whodini,â he wrote. âThis man was legendary and a pivotal member of one of the most legendary groups in hip hop. This is sad man.â
