Rural broadband plagued by poor mapping, high costs

House Agriculture Committee hears firsthand what is needed to help close the digital divide in rural America. During the pandemic, the need for access to adequate broadband only increased with an estimated 24 million Americans lacking. Otsego Electric Cooperative announced Friday, Feb. 19, that its OEConnect service had gotten a funding commitment from the Federal Communications Commission s Rural Development Opportunity Fund. The grant will provide $7.4 million to expand existing infrastructure farther into unserved and underserved locations in Otsego, Herkimer and Madison counties.

He talked about COVID-19 relief negotiations in Congress and answered questions on topics ranging from student debt to rural broadband. Delgado, a Democrat about to begin his second term representing the 19th District, opened his 49th town hall addressing the status of COVID-19 relief negotiations.
