Brown, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation communication and education specialist. This Saturday and Sunday are the only days when you don’t need a state license to legally fish. But there are some things you should know before heading out with the rod and reel. “Make sure you ask the landowners first before you go traipsing out there free fishing doesn t mean everywhere,” Brown said. So as you head out to fish this weekend, know whether the water you’re fishing on is public or private. On private land, notice things like no trespassing signs. Free fishing doesn’t mean you can fish on private land without approval. Summer Fishing Opportunities Kick Off In Oklahoma
This weekend kicks off a summer of fun fishing opportunities in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma s Free Fishing Days take place Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6.
During Oklahoma s Free Fishing days, anyone can go fishing without a state fishing license.
Then starting on Tuesday, June 8 the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation will start hosting free fishing clinics for all ages at the Oklahoma Aquarium Complex Zebco Pond.
Folks will get hands-on training, like learning how to cast, tie knots and fish identification, plus plenty of time to fish.
Fishing licenses are not required for the clinics and rods, reels and tackle will be provided.
