After 10 years as an MLA for Fermanagh South Tyrone, Sean Lynch has stepped away from frontline politics. Elected in May, 2011, the ex-IRA volunteer turned Sinn Féin politician had his final engagement in Stormont on Wednesday. Having been sent to prison for 25 years in 1986, Mr. Lynch was released 12 years later in 1998 under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement (GFA). He said that the move from an armed struggle to a political one was something discussed during those days in Long Kesh, and when he was freed he became involved with Sinn Féin, first as a constituency manager and then as a MLA.

The former Daily Telegraph editor-in-chief, who lived in Kilkenny in the 1970s while reporting on the Troubles, says the English will not be overly concerned by the north s departure, claiming that most British people care not a fig for Ireland.
Johnson’s deal (choreographed to within an inch of its life), is now celebrated and salvaging basic logistics from collapse is held up as a sign of our glorious future.
Meanwhile, in an alternative dimension, Alister Jack the most discredited and duplicitous Scottish Secretary of State (from a group that includes Michael Forsyth and Malcolm Rifkind) declares (‘Brexit trade deal: Historic moment benefits us all‘):
“After a long and tough negotiation we have secured a fantastic deal with the EU. This is great news for Scottish businesses and families. Having delivered a deal for the whole of the UK in record time, there are opportunities ahead. It is the first time the EU has ever agreed a zero-tariff, zero-quota deal, giving Scotland’s businesses exceptional access to the EU.”
