Two Hudson Valley Towns Tie For Most Snow in NY State From Storm
If you thought you got a lot of snow from this week s storm, you re right. But two Hudson Valley towns won bragging rights for receiving more snow than anyone else.
A violent nor easter ripped through the Hudson Valley on Monday and stuck around through late Tuesday dumping over two feet of snow in some areas of the region. While early forecasts called for the most snowfall to occur far to our south, it was actually the Hudson Valley that received the most accumulations.
Schools were shuttered and vehicles were ordered off of the road as a state of emergency was declared for most of the Hudson Valley. As the snow started to pick up on Monday afternoon it was clear that this storm was going to be a whopper, putting snow blowers and shovels to the test.
MOUNT ARLINGTON, N.J. (AP) This week s winter storm appears to have broken a 122-year-old record for the most snow in a New Jersey community from one storm.
Mount Arlington, in the northern part of the state, got 35.5 inches (90 centimeters) of snow in the storm, which lasted about three days, the National Weather Service noted Tuesday in a preliminary report. It could take months to confirm the total and the new record, though.
The snowfall report came from a trained weather observer, and officials note there s no reason to doubt its veracity. If confirmed, it would top the record of 34 inches (86 centimeters) that fell during a blizzard Feb. 11-Feb. 14 in Cape May County in southern New Jersey in 1899.

The long-duration winter storm that has already dumped more than 20 inches of snow across much of northern and central New Jersey isn’t quite done as forecasters say it could bring up to 3 additional inches on Tuesday before finally clearing out.
The worst is certainly over, though, as winter storm warnings are set to expire and the dig out begins.
Up to 3 inches of snow could fall in parts of New Jersey on Tuesday as a winter storm lingers into day three and adds to some huge snow totals.
