The Bassmaster Elite Series season was back on this past weekend in Alabama at Neely Henry Lake, an impoundment on the Coosa River. This body of water was a new adventure for me and one that I had never seen before last week. Strong storms with heavy rainfall last week caused the lake to flood before the event, making for a roller-coaster tournament, to say the least.
My wife Shelby and I have been in the U.S. for the past couple of months, because the tournament schedule has been steady and because of the difficulty to cross the border back to Canada at this time, so on our off weeks in between tournaments we have been doing quite a bit of fishing at waterbodies near where the next tournament is. For anybody that may not know, we are only allowed three practice days just before our tournaments and prior to that, the lakes are off-limits for a month. Fishing on waters near the tournament venues can be helpful in figuring out what the bass might be doing once we get

Before the tournament began, Wes Loganpredicted it would take 55 pounds to win.
He was wrong. It took 57 pounds.
The Springville native landed 57 lbs. 9 oz. to land the blue trophy Monday at the 2021 Whataburger Bassmaster Elite at Neely Henry Lake. He beat Paul Mueller, who was 1 lb. 6 oz. back in second place.
“I give it all I had,” Logan said at Monday’s weigh-in. “I’ve led some tournaments going to the last day but never been able to close it out. To do it here on this body of water as many hours I’ve spent here, it just makes this that more special, and to do it in front of all of these people it’s even more special. The good Lord blessed me.”

Keewatin product Jeff Gustafson finished 34th over the weekend in Alabama, marking his fourth top-40 finish out of six total events so far in 2021.
Gussy finished with a three-day total of 29 lbs 9 oz at the 2021 Whataburger Bassmaster Elite at Neely Henry lake. That weight was back of the 36 lbs 16 oz he needed to qualify for the final day of top ten fishing on Monday.
This was the second event of the 2021 Bassmaster Elite season in Alabama. The first came back in March when Gustafson finished 89th in the field of 100 anglers.
