Yet Shipstead’s narrative skill compelled readers along, as when she derided one of the numerous snooty WASPs populating her debut as someone who “had been a dour Young Republican in his teens and in his twenties applied himself to his finance job and to a methodical investigation of eligible women that ultimately yielded a female mirror image who fused with him in a marriage as cold and perfect as the bond between two adjacent blocks in an igloo.”

Steve W. Smith, 45, of Sevierville, passed from his earthly life on April 1, 2021, due to severe depression. He is now at peace in his Heavenly home, rejoicing with many loved ones. Steve graduated from Sevier County High School and Walters State Community College. He was an amazing salesman. He enjoyed fishing on any lake, but most of all he enjoyed late night talks with the love of his life, Kennedy, his daughter. He truly loved her more than life itself. Steve leaves behind his daughter, Kennedy; parents, Eddie and Rhonda Smith; brother, Jeremy and wife Kristy; nephew, Elliott Smith and niece, Eleanor Smith; and a host of extended loving family members and friends.
