ANU and RMIT researchersâ adaptive optics to direct guide star laser being developed by Electro Optic Systems.
The researchersâ work on adaptive optics, which removes the haziness caused by turbulence in the atmosphere, has been applied to a new âguide starâ laser for better identifying, tracking and safely moving space debris.
ANU says that space debris is a major threat to the $700 billion of space infrastructure delivering diverse, critical services around the globe each day: âWith laser guide star adaptive optics, this infrastructure now has a new line of defense.â
Researchers at The Australian National University (ANU) have harnessed a technique that helps telescopes see objects in the night sky more clearly to fight against dangerous and costly space debris. The researchers’ work on adaptive optics – which removes the haziness caused by turbulence in the atmosphere – has been applied to a new ‘guide star’ laser for better identifying, tracking and safely moving space debris.

Here s a fun fact:
– Barnaby Joyce chairs the Parliamentary Committee for Industry, Innovation, Science & Resources
– 2 weeks ago he bought EOS stocks for his son, a defence and space tech company
– Today EOS announced new laser technology to track and move space debris #auspol
It seems Joyce questioned executives from Electro Optic Systems at a public hearing in Canberra on February 26, and his partner later purchased shares in the company in a trust for their young son.
This week, EOS announced a major breakthrough in laser technology, which “significantly advances the global effort to mitigate space debris”, sending their share price temporarily up.

Electro Optic Systems Hldg Ltd(ASX: EOS) share price is pushing higher on Friday morning.
In early trade, the space, defence, and communication systems provider’s shares are up over 5% to $5.69.
Why is the Electro Optic
Systems share price on the rise?
Investors have been buying Electro Optic Systems shares after it announced a major breakthrough in laser technology this morning.
According to the release, the company has significantly advanced the global effort to mitigate space debris through its Guide Laser technology.
Joyce added: âI will just declare an interest â I havenât.â
But Joyce updated his parliamentary register of interests nearly three weeks later to disclose a new purchase related to his son, Sebastian, who turns three this month. The 16 March disclosure form stated: âTrust fund purchased shares in EOS (Electro Optic Systems Hldg Ltd).â
EOS announced to the share market on Friday that it had achieved a major breakthrough in laser technology âwhich significantly advances the global effort to mitigate space debrisâ.
It involves using laser beams âthat can track and move space debris at lower altitudes and faster speeds than ever previously possibleâ.
