BETHESDA Area residents turned out in groups large and small to mark the National Day of Prayer on Thursday with a message of unity, community and asking God for strength to bear up during difficult times.
At St. Clairsville, about 40 people gathered under a tent on the plaza in front of the Belmont County Courthouse.
Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic meant the in-person gathering could not occur, and the faithful viewed a livestreamed event. Organizers said attendees were excited Thursday.
The Rev. Leonard Payne, chaplain of the Family Life Ministry Center Assemblies of God in Bridgeport, was the speaker. He spoke about the importance of hearing God’s call and witnessing love, forgiveness and mercy rather than worldly matters.

Epworth brings hope to blood cancer patients

A new clinic has opened as the first step to providing revolutionary life-saving services for blood cancer patients at Victoria’s Epworth HealthCare.
A joint project, the Epworth Centre for Immunotherapies and Snowdome Laboratories will provide innovative treatments and technology as part of the path to offering cellular therapies in Australia.
It was funded by donations to the Epworth Medical and Snowdome foundations.
“We are grateful to the many donors who helped make this world-class facility a reality,” Epworth Medical Foundation’s Executive Director Scott Bulger said.

STEUBENVILLE A walking tour of Urban Mission Ministries’ close-at-hand outreach locations initially intended just for representatives of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church on Monday has since been expanded to include the general public.
The Rev. Ashley Steele, executive director of Urban Mission, said the tour of the mission sites is part of the overall “United Methodist Volunteers in Mission Journey: Mondays in March, Works of Service as a Lenten Practice.”
