Poland school board picks Hockenberry as new chief | News, Sports, Jobs

POLAND A new superintendent has been named for the Poland Local School District. In an announcement made Friday on the district’s website, Craig Hockenberry has been selected and will be formally hired during a special board of education meeting Monday. Hockenberry was one of seven semifinalists in a search lead by Finding Leaders, the firm hired by Poland schools. Ultimate-ly, the selection was narrowed to Hockenberry and Jude Meyers, superintendent of Gallia County Local Schools. Hockenberry most recently worked as superintendent of Three Rivers Local School District in Hamilton County near Cincinnati, a district with 2,500 students. He served in that role for six years.

POLAND The Poland Board of Education has narrowed the field in its search for a new superintendent. Seven candidates remain and the board will have two special executive sessions to review them and narrow the field even more. Board President Gregg Riddle said the board set sessions for Tuesday and today to begin the interviewing process for the candidates. The next work session will be May 17 and the next board meeting will be May 24. POLAND Poland Local school board members are beginning their search for a new superintendent. In a unanimous vote this week, the board of education decided to proceed with Finding Leaders, of the Cleveland area, to guide the process. Annie Colucci, board member, said she was impressed by what Finding Leaders was able to present to the board, given COVID-19 restrictions and recent inclement weather. “I also like their time frame … and the cost is reasonable,” she added. The cost will be $15,000 from the school districtás general fund. Three companies submitted bids: the Ohio School Boards Association, Finding Leaders and McPherson and Jacobsen of Nebraska, the latter of which held appeal to school board President Gregg Riddle.

Valley schools get 2nd-round boost in relief funds | News, Sports, Jobs

Mahoning Valley school districts are expected to receive slightly more than $39 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds this spring. This is a second installment of relief funds provided by the federal government for hard-hit school districts since the coronavirus pandemic began in early 2020. In the last allocation of ESSER funds provided to school districts in 2020, schools in Mahoning County received $9,157,835. The final allocations are expected to be released in the next several weeks, according to Ohio Board of Education officials. Once allocated, the funds must be used by Sept. 30, 2023. School districts are being awarded based on the percent of total Title 1 funds they receive. Funds can support any allowable activity under existing federal funds, including Title I (to support academic achievement), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Perkins (low interest loans to help needy students finance the costs of postsecondary education) a
