(AFP) LONDON: Hong Kong democracy activist Nathan Law held his first meeting with a UK minister after fleeing to Britain in July, as the government looks to ease entry rules for residents wanting to escape a Chinese crackdown on the former British colony. The meeting was convened by Shaun Bailey, who is running to be London mayor for the ruling Conservatives, and attended by Home Secretary Priti Patel as she reviews a plan to relax entry rules for Hong Kong holders of British National (Overseas) passports.

Why are Taiwanese not helping them, when Taiwanese should be saving them? Could it be that all Taiwan can do is gift masks during a pandemic? President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) talks of the plight of the three young Hong Kong campaigners who have been imprisoned Joshua Wong (黃之鋒), Agnes Chow (周庭) and Ivan Lam (林朗彥) but she just repeats flaccid calls to action, such as: “We either defend democracy, or we surrender to the threat of authoritarianism.”
