Description of the situation:
The Observatory has been informed by the Gulf Centre of Human Rights (GCHR) about the sentencing of freelance journalists
Sherwan Sherwani,
Ayaz Karam Bruji and
Kohdar Mohammed Amin Zebari as reprisals for their social media coverage of the wave of protests that have been held in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq since August 2020[1].
On February 16, 2021, the Second Criminal Court of Erbil sentenced Messrs. Sherwani, Bruji and Zebari to six years of imprisonment for “destabilizing the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region” (Article 1 of Law 21/2003 of the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region and Articles 47 and 48 of the Iraqi Penal Code) in relation with their conversations on social media and a discussion group the

The Iraqi Commission of Integrity (Nazaha) said yesterday as many as 28 arrest warrants have been issued against officers in the Iraqi army on corruption charges and bribery.
The body said in a statement that the Iraqi judiciary in the southern Governorate of Maysan has issued 28 arrest warrants against officers who it believes overlooked the absences of the brigade s members in return for cash.
According to the statement, the commission s investigation office in Maysan governorate has collected all the available evidence, checked it, issued independent documents for each violation and submitted them to the competent court which in turn issued 28 warrants against the defendants based on Article 307 of the Iraqi Penal Code.

Under Article 406 of Iraqi Penal Code, Which Provides For Death Penalty, Iraqi Court Issues Arrest Warrant For President Trump For Killing Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis

On January 7, 2020, a Baghdad court issued an arrest warrant for U.S. President Donald Trump as part of its investigation into the killing of Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU). Al-Muhandis was killed on January 3, 2020, in the U.S. airstrike near Baghdad International Airport that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
The court for east Baghdad issued the warrant for Trump s arrest under Article 406 of the penal code, which provides for the death penalty in all cases of premeditated murder.[1]
