Ayurvedic purification does away with toxicity of Bhallataka or varnish tree A group of researchers from Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala’s Centre for Medicinal Plants Research (CMPR) has come up with evidence to prove that a poisonous medicinal plant available in the State can be effectively used against several illnesses, including cancer, after purification.
A study conducted by a team led by C.T. Sulaiman, senior scientist
at CMPR’s phytochemistry division, found that the traditional
purification process suggested by Ayurveda classics for Bhallataka or ‘marking nut’ could not only do away with its toxicity, but also
drastically enhance its anti-cancer properties. “This finding can lead to new insights into cancer research,” said Dr. Sulaiman.

The United States National Health Institute’s Public Health Emergency collections have included the findings of a series of research conducted by Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala.
Renowned publisher Springer Nature has published the results of the studies jointly conducted by Arya Vaidya Sala’s Department of Clinical Research, the Centre for Medicinal Plants Research and the Product Development Department.

Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, one of the top-notch institutions engaged in the propagation of Ayurveda at global level, has signed an agreement with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad as part of its ongoing research on the efficacy of Ayurvedic drugs in the fight against COVID-19.
The CCMB, one of the premier life science research institutes engaged in testing, sequencing and growing novel coronavirus strains in their laboratories, will test Arya Vaidya Sala’s (AVS) standardised Ayurveda formulations on the lab-grown coronavirus strains in cell culture system, and check for their anti-viral efficacy.
