Scientists are currently identifying mutations of the virus using a lengthy and expensive process known as sequencing , in which the genetic material of the virus is analysed over a week. However, a potentially life-saving test has now been developed which can quickly root out people infected with a different strain before they spread it to others and it cannot be contained.
