Giants catcher Buster Posey was scratched from Tuesday night’s 10-6 loss to the Rangers with right hip tightness, though manager Gabe Kapler described the move as precautionary.
“It’s not something that we’re concerned about on a long-term basis,” Kapler said during a Zoom call with reporters. “We think it’s going to be a couple of days. We may just take him through the off-day [on Saturday] just to be cautious, but I really want to stress that it’s not something that we’re concerned about.”
Posey, 33, underwent surgery to address a hip impingement and a torn labrum in his right hip in August 2018. He returned in time to start for the Giants on Opening Day in 2019, but the hip issue still seemed to sap his power for the second consecutive season, as he hit .257 with a career-low .688 OPS and seven home runs over 114 games.

Alex Wood will undergo an ablation procedure on his spine, Maria Guardado of MLB.com was among those to report. However, the club has not ruled Wood out for Opening Day, according to manager Gabe Kapler.
Wood, a former Brave, Red and Dodger, joined the Giants for a $3MM guarantee in the offseason. He’s expected to rack up plenty of starts for the club this season if he’s healthy, though injuries have been a frequent problem for the 30-year-old dating back to his major league debut in 2013. Wood combined for only 48 1/3 innings during the previous two seasons, owing to back and shoulder problems, but he was highly effective in last fall’s playoffs as the Dodgers stormed to a World Series title. Wood threw 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball in the postseason, including four scoreless frames during the Fall Classic.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler couldnât help but steer the conversation toward young right-hander Logan Webb following his clubâs 5-4 win over the Indians at Scottsdale Stadium on Saturday.
âAnytime youâre ready to talk about Webb, Iâm excited to talk about that,â Kapler said.
Kaplerâs enthusiasm was understandable, as Webb extended his impressive start to the spring by striking out six and allowing only one hit over three scoreless innings against Cleveland. The 24-year-old has yet to allow a run over six innings in his first three Cactus League appearances and has continued to make a strong push for a spot on the Giantsâ Opening Day roster.

After winning the World Series in 2019, Washington experienced major regression last season with a 26-34 record and failure to make the playoffs despite an expanded field.
