1 As the leader of Fort Wayne UNITED, you work on many fronts to improve lives, increase opportunity and decrease crime. How has that work changed during the pandemic?
We couldn t afford to deviate from the core of our foundation because our work is rooted in the principles of relationship. However, safety adjustments had to be made for Fort Wayne UNITED to remain effective at serving, engaging and building relational equity within the populations we serve. Although we paused some programs that wouldn t work on a virtual platform, we took the opportunity to expand our L.I.V.E. Forums virtually and reached a lot more people than ever before, we started our new R.E.A.L. Dad program online in partnership with Healthier Moms & Babies, Boys and Girls Club, and City Life, and our TenPoint Coalition shifted slightly and began passing out food and supplies to over 40,000 residents in need.
Whiteford introduces plan to pump millions into adoption marketing

LANSING A budget proposal in the Michigan House of Representatives would provide $15 million in the state s fiscal year 2022 budget toward marketing alternatives to abortion.
Reps. Mary Whiteford, R-Casco Township, and Tom Albert, R-Lowell, introduced the proposal Tuesday, in House Bill 4189.
Of the $15 million:
$10 million would go toward marketing and informational materials on infant adoption as an alternative to abortion.
$3 million would go toward maternal navigator pilot programs across the state, grant funding for nonprofit counseling or other similar nonprofit services organizations that promote childbirth and alternatives to abortion. The pilot programs also would provide counseling for new and expectant mothers, including victims of rape and other forms of abuse that result in pregnancy.

COVID-19 recovery at forefront of 2021 session
BY MICHAEL CRUMB, Senior Staff Writer Friday, January 22, 2021 6:00 AM Lawmakers returned to the Statehouse Jan. 11 to begin the 2021 session with issues like business growth and education among their top priorities as the state continues its recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. Legislators began the 89th Iowa General Assembly hoping for a return to normalcy after the 2020 session was disrupted by the pandemic. Lawmakers adjourned in mid-March last year and didn’t reconvene until early June, leaving them to scramble to approve a state budget before the end of the fiscal year on June 30. The Business Record spoke with several lawmakers before the session started about what their priorities were and what issues they will be closely watching. Here is some of what they had to say.
