Archbishop Andrew Bellisario of the new Archdiocese of Anchorage and Juneau Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Pope Frances decided earlier this year to merge the Diocese of Juneau and the Archdiocese of Anchorage which took effect in September.
He named then Diocese of Juneau Bishop Andrew Bellisario as the Archbishop.
When the Archbishop was named bishop in Juneau he received no advance word. He was asked if the Pope game him a heads up on this latest appointment. No, none at all. You may recall in June of 2019 I was asked to be the temporary bishop in the Archdiocese of Anchorage. what they would call apostolic administrator. And so I was doing that and that was a surprise for me to be asked that and then on May 19th when I got the call I had not anticipated it at all. So it was quite a surprise to me.
