PORT ARTHUR, Texas Tuesday marks one of the worst days on record during the pandemic as 396 Southeast Texans are now battling the virus.
The three hospital systems urging us all to limit our exposure to help protect our neighbors are The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas and CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System.
They put out a joint statement Tuesday, outlining the steps we all need to know to help stop the spread.

BEAUMONT, Texas There are positive signs that the community has a grip on the coronavirus. Some hospital units that were exclusively used for COVID-19 patients are preparing to close, and nurses that were brought in from across the state to help will soon go home.
Southeast Texas COVID-19 hospitalizations have been slowly declining. Hospitals in our area are prepared to transition their operations.
“Returning these floors to their original purpose signals a hopeful time for our hospital family and for our community. We will maintain the ability to expand our covid hospitalization capacity should the need arise,” Medical Center of Southeast Texas President, Josh Snow was quoted as saying in the release.
Hospital officials are hoping that converting the rooms back to normal use will help signal to Southeast Texans that they can safely return to the hospital for all their medical needs, especially things like regular health screenings, according to spokesperson Angie Hebert.
