Maternity cover rules eased as part of Women’s Champions League revamp

New maternity cover regulations are to be introduced in the Women’s Champions League from next season.
UEFA announced a series of reforms to the tournament on Tuesday, with increased rewards and solidarity payments, as well as the introduction of VAR from the quarter-final stage.
UEFA has also introduced more flexible squad rules, allowing clubs to temporarily replace players, either because they are pregnant, or due to maternity leave.

CHELSEA WERE NARROWLY beaten by Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Women’s Champions League semi-final today while Arsenal’s winning streak stretched to seven games in the Women’s Superleague.
Emma Hayes’ Chelsea team are looking to reach the final of the competition for the first time and it is all to play for heading into the second leg on 2 May after the Germans prevailed 2-1.
Sydney Lohmann opened the scoring 12 minutes in with a powerful header after Glas right-footed cross bounded off the hands of Chelsea goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. Melanie Leupolz tied it against her former team in the 23rd minute.
