West Bengal: MHA seeks report on post-poll political violence (ANI Photo)
Kolkata: No sooner had Mamata Banerjeeâs Trinamool Congress sealed its third consecutive win in West Bengal than violence started in several parts of the state.
On May 2, after the mandate was clear that the ruling Trinamool Congress is going to retain power in the state, reports came in of alleged TMC goons ransacking several BJP party offices across the state. Again on Monday, violence against the BJP cadres was reported in the wee hours.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought a report from the West Bengal government of the post-election violence against opposition political workers in the state.

The Government has ruled out the imposition of a national lockdown to contain the spread of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic s scathing second wave while issuing fresh guidelines under the National Disaster Management Act, 2005 to bolster efforts to handle the situation,

While ruling out the possibility of imposing a national lockdown, the Government has directed the States and the Union Territories (UTs) to consider containment measures as suggested by the Union Ministry of Health recently.
The order is likely to impact cities in 10 major states reporting a majority of cases including cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat and Lucknow.

The Centre notified the amended Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021 on Tuesday (27 April).
âIn exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 1 of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Act, 2021 (15 of 2021), the Central Government hereby appoints the 27th day of April, 2021, as the date on which the provisions of the said Act shall come into force,â the ministry of home affairs said in a notification.

Centre bans use of liquid oxygen for any non-medical purpose, asks manufacturing units to maximise production

The Central government on Sunday reviewed the oxygen supply situation in the country and has now banned the use of liquid oxygen for any non-medical purpose. Moreover, all manufacturing units have been asked to maximise their production of liquid oxygen and make it available to the government with immediate effect, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement. It has been considered necessary to restrict industrial usage of oxygen supply situation for ensuring availability of adequate and uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen across the country for management of COVID, the MHA statement read.

India is facing a fresh surge of COVID-19 cases. The condition of some of the states in particular is worrisome. One such state is Maharashtra, where full lockdown has been imposed on weekends and fresh restrictions to last through April.
