A 19-year-old has been identified as the person who was killed after a shooting in the Willard Hay neighborhood of north Minneapolis.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner identified the person as Edwin Lydell Vaughn Jr.
The cause of death is a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police spokesman John Elder said, just after 9 p.m., police responded to a ShotSpotter activation on the 2600 block of Upton Avenue North.
When officers arrived, they were unable to find a victim. According to Elder, a few minutes later, the officers were told a man turned up at North Memorial Health Hospital with a gunshot wound. That victim, later identified as Vaughn, died at the hospital.
With Memorial Day coming up on Monday, this weekend is the perfect time to visit a military memorial or cemetery to pay respects to those who ve answered the call to service.
Memorials exist throughout the area, including in Cadillac, Manton, Evart, Marion, Reed City and Lake City, to name a few communities.
Come Monday, while some Memorial Day events have been cancelled as a result of COVID-19, a number of marches and gatherings still are scheduled to be held.
Unlike Veterans Day, which is a holiday held in honor of all veterans past and present, Memorial Day focuses specifically on those veterans who died while in military service to their country.
