Students and staff in the Waukesha School District exposed to COVID-19 will no longer have to quarantine under a decision by the Waukesha School Board on May 4.
A divided school board voted, 5-4, that schools in the district will not quarantine students and staff determined to be a close contact of an individual having tested positive for COVID-19, presumed to be positive for the virus or awaiting a coronavirus test result.
All Waukesha School District students currently in quarantine for such contact may immediately return to school. Students and staff are free to self-quarantine.
Board members Kelly Piacsek, Corey Montiho, Anthony Zenobia, Karin Rajnicek and Patrick McCaffery voted for the revised policy, while board members Amanda Roddy, Greg Deets, Bill Baumgart and Joseph Como voted against it.
