The Lincoln Agri-Robotics centre at the University of Lincoln, opened in 2019, is the largest facility of its kind in Europe, and is now on track to become the global leader.
Speaking at Insider’s Food Production in the Digital Age online forum, which was sponsored by Lincolnshire County Council and Team Lincolnshire, Martin Collison, agri-tech specialist at Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), said: It s growing at pace because of business demand and because the government has invested in it. There’s huge potential in robotics in the years ahead.
The growth of the centre highlights Lincolnshire’s key role in the agritech sector, which is attracting major investment.
North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner, ENGIE, have been awarded £2.2 million of Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP) funding to construct a new cycle superhighway from Grimsby to Immingham.
The project is worth a total of £2.6 million, with £400,000 contributed by the council and private sector, and will see 3.8 kilometres of new off-road cycleway constructed to give cyclists a ‘safe and sustainable’ route across the South Humber Bank to access work and training facilities.
When the project is complete, the new cycle links, when combined with existing cycle and walking infrastructure, will provide the “longest continuous off-road cycle link in the borough”.

Drivers in Lincolnshire will face disruption from February as part of a ten-month improvement project at one of the county’s busiest junctions, the A15/17 Sleaford Holdingham Roundabout.
The project will see new approach lanes and traffic signals installed. Work is expected to start on Monday, February 15, subject to suitable weather.
The overall project is expected to be completed in December 2021, ahead of the Christmas period, but the council will try to finish sooner if possible.
As part of the work, drivers can expect a combination of 24/7 narrow lanes and lane closures, along with a series of night-time temporary traffic signals, full road and roundabout closures as and when needed.
