S/West crises: Northern governors,elders meet in Abuja
On Desist from acts that could provoke North,elders warn southerners

NORTHERN governors and elders in the region met Monday night to fashion out ways of deescalating ethnic tensions growing across the country following crisis in the South West, especially the Shasha crisis in Ibadan,Oyo State.
The northern governors were led by their chairman and governor of Plateau State,Barr. Simon Lalong while to the elders under the aegis of Northern Elders Forum,were led by the forum’s chairman,Prof. Abdullahi Ango.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting that lasted for about four hours, Governor Simon Lalong explained that the meeting was at the instance of ethnic crises in the southern part of the country especially in the South West,occasioned by quite notices and Shasha crisis in Oyo State.

Former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) has advised that Nigeria must devolve powers and return to regional autonomy to overcome the crisis hampering its development.
According to him, regional autonomy would resolve the country’s diversity challenge. x
“More importantly, it allows subsidiarity to deliver public service at the base of the nation. I was intrigued by the extent of devolved power in the western region under self-rule in 1951. According to the author of a lecture on regional autonomy, devolution of powers in western Nigeria was substantial and devolved from the regional government to the provisional, divisional, district and native authority.

WORRIED by Civil strife, ethnic violence in Nigeria, Kidnapping across the country, Leaders of the National Consultative Front, NCF, a frontline political pressure group have concluded arrangement to convoke what they termed, the people’s National Conference.
They said that the Peoples Constituent Assembly is slated to hold May this where Nigerians will converge, brainstorm on these burning issues, with a view to coming up with workable solutions.
According to the NCFront, Leaders of Conscience, the Conference has become very imperative because they are disappointed by Federal Government’s inability and failure to douse heightening ethnic violence and civil strife in Nigeria.
