Fermanagh to lose out on temporary testing centre Posted: 5:03 pm May 27, 2021
By Jodie Curran
IT HAS been confirmed that there will be no temporary testing centres opened in Fermanagh to help deal with the backlog of practical driving tests caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite this, two extra testing centres will open later this month in Tyrone, as well as Belfast and Coleraine.
A Department for Infrastructure spokesman told the Herald, “The DVA is working to provide additional capacity for driving tests. There are no plans to open a temporary test centre in the Fermanagh area.”
The news will come as a shock to learner drivers here in Fermanagh, and for the many who have already waited over one year to sit their practical exam.

The Road Safety Authority has confirmed that ‘essential workers’ can take Essential Driver Training (EDT) lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) from this Monday 10 May.
Initial Basic Training (IBT), the programme of mandatory training for learner motorcyclists can also resume from 10 May. Essential Driver Training can resume for any essential workers who want to start the EDT process as well as those who had already commenced their EDT before Level 5 restrictions were imposed.
It also extends to essential workers in the process of undertaking lessons in preparation for Car, HGV and Bus tests. Approved Driving Instructors can continue to deliver pre-test lessons to essential workers. Those learners in the non-essential category may not take EDT sessions / lessons as restrictions remain in place for this group.

Motorists in Laois are being asked to remain patient as the gradual reopening of some road safety services provided by the Road Safety Authority and the driving instruction industry, according to Laois Kildare Senator Fiona O’Loughlin.
More than 1,500 people are waiting to sit a test in Laois as Covid-19 restrictions froze the system.
She said the government has decided that initial Basic Training (IBT), the programme of mandatory lessons that all learner motorcyclists must complete with an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) before sitting a driving test, can resume from 10 May. The RSA will continue to deliver motorcycle testing.
