Healthcare providers brace for pre-vaccine testing numbers

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Just before the recent spike in numbers, Curative, who operates the Old West Enrichment Centers testing site, said they were only seeing a few tests per day when they first opened.
Now, they ve seen a 30 percent increase in tests not only at their Tallahassee site that has seen 500 tests in two weeks, but around the state in Florida at their other testing centers.
Also getting people tested, Neighborhood medical center who say they went from four tests per day to to 200 per week.
The rise in COVID-19 cases have both companies thinking about expanding their COVID-19 testing efforts.
We certainly realize there are plenty of vaccine sites all over town, said LCS assistant superintendent Alan Cox, who oversees health and wellness at the district. We’re trying to increase the percentage of our employees as well as get 16 and 17-year-olds vaccinated.
Cox said the mobile clinic is a partnership with the Florida Department of Health-Leon County and will administer both the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Cox said the mobile unit has the capacity to administer up to 400 doses per day.
Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is the only one cleared for 16- and 17-year-olds. Those under 18 will need a parent or guardian present at the time of vaccination. The mobile unit will return to the high school sites for second dose appointments.

Wednesday was the busiest day the FAMU vaccination clinic has seen since opening last week. 129 people stopped by; many of which were part of the new group of eligible people.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â More than 46,000 people in Leon County have now been vaccinated. Health experts say that number is growing rapidly, especially as more people become eligible to take the vaccine.
Wednesday was the busiest day the Florida A&M University vaccination clinic has seen since opening Feb. 25. 129 people received the vaccine.
