LLC. Acker had expressed interest in buying the former Moose Creek furniture store to create a wine bar and retail shop, offering wine-making supplies and classes. The city’s Economic Development Authority (EDA) recommended approving the loan on March 29, but the council tabled the question on April 13 in order to give City Administrator Angel Weasner time to discuss issues with Acker regarding her state liquor license.

Moved for approval by council member Erika Randall and passed unanimously, the resolution contains seven “whereas” statements echoing the tenets of the Respect Minnesota pledge but no “be it therefore resolved.” The pledge’s five tenets read: I support free speech and a safe environment for everyone. I will listen, be inclusive and look for common ground. I will respect others, our natural environment, and local communities. I will respect the cultural heritage and history of the Indigenous people.

Scott McMahon, a senior lobbyist with the Flaherty & Hood, P.A., law firm, is the new executive director for the Greater Minnesota Partnership (GMNP). McMahon, who has worked with the partnership since 2017,  lobbying to address Greater Minnesota’s child care shortage while working with the organization’s growing membership. He was appointed to the executive director’s job by the nonprofit’s board of directors, the group said in Jan. 6 press release. “The leadership he has shown in advancing our policy agenda over the past two years and the effort he has made to strengthen the organization’s statewide presence and financial health made the decision about this transition easy and seamless for the board,” said the group’s president Heidi Omerza.
