One of Carrie Symonds’ closest political allies has defended her against “sexist” claims that she has too much influence in Downing Street and should “back off” from policymaking, after she was accused of trying to get a minister fired at the next reshuffle.
Lord Goldsmith, who sits as a minister in the House of Lords, said claims the Prime Minister’s fiancee is secretly directing government policy, appointing staff and trying to remove Cabinet ministers she does not like were “fabrication” borne of “1950s sexism”.
