RAPID CITY, S.D. — After listening to the heated debates between adults over mask mandates, the kids got a chance to share their views on the subject.
The Rapid City Youth City Council has been working to amplify the voices of youth throughout the community, and during their meeting Tuesday evening, they discussed heavily the mask mandate.
In comparison to Common Council meetings, most youth members were actually in favor of the mandate, and agreed that they wanted to do whatever it would take to keep the community safe.
“I think that it’s really affecting us,” said Council Chair, Hannah Churchill. “Like we have to wear masks in school, and we see that that’s working, I think. I feel safer at school than I do a lot of places because of the mask, the mask mandate at school. So I think that we kind of see firsthand what it can do, and that it’s not really that big of a deal when everyone is compliant.”
