If you want to experience thrilling action, cheer on a badass team and get a surprise prize-winning ending but you’re not a football fan, turn on Netflix’s newest family adventure film,
Finding ‘Ohana. To us, if
The Goonies and
Lilo and Stitch had a movie baby, this would be it. We won’t go into the premise—if you’re local, we’re sure you’ve read or heard about it. We will say: We’re extremely proud of the three local female leads (Kelly Hu, Lindsay Watson and Kea Peahu) who are truly shining gems. The movie was (actually) filmed here, as you can see from the cameos of iconic landmarks and popular beaches; ‘ohana and aloha themes run thick; you will find campy, translated, pidgin conversations that are small-kine cringy; there’s a cool, spirited spin on a Hawaiian legend; annnnnd, there is Data—the OG Goonie who apparently now sets fish traps instead of booby traps. All in all, it’s a must-see flick for the whole family.
