July is Home Energy Aid Month in Oklahoma, and perhaps never has the need to help the less fortunate with utility costs been so great. The current heat of summer, the record-setting cold of last winter and the economic impact of the pandemic mean many Oklahomans are struggling to keep essential utility services.
It has been my honor to serve on The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma's advisory board for almost 11 years, and I have seen first-hand the difference its utility assistance program can make. But in most communities, The Salvation Army is able to help only a handful of households per month because there just isn’t enough funding.
