Year of COVID in Knox County: Most deaths came from nursing homes

As of Tuesday, 5,121 residents have contracted COVID-19.
The county’s first COVID-19 case, a male in his 50s, was announced on March 27, 2020, amid a state shutdown.
A year ago Wednesday, the Galesburg Rescue Mission confirmed the county’s first case had been living there and was hospitalized at that time.
Dave Scholl, director of the Galesburg Rescue Mission, said the man fully recovered and, due to protocols in place, no other residents contracted the virus, though several employees later contracted it elsewhere.
“We’ve not had other residents staying here that have had it,” Scholl said. “Thank goodness, praise the Lord, we’ve made it through so far.
